Joined
Hampsthwaite United at the age of 16 in 1993.
Originally an all out Striker, more
recently a right-midfielder, Jono has won various honours with
the club and currently holds 5 top goal scorers awards in his
posession.
A key figure of the mid-1990's
Hampsthwaite that progressed from the 4th Division up to the
2nd Division between the years of 1994-95 & 1997-98.
Jono has won 2 League Championships,
4th Division 1995-96 & 3rd Division 1997-98 and Managed
the side to promotion to the 1st Division 2003/04.
In between all that also
figured in 3 Cup Finals, losing them all and is yet to pick up
a Cup Winner's medal in 12 years at the club.
Picked up a career threatening knee
injury January 3rd 1999 which required a complete rebuild of
his cruciate and anterior knee ligaments and restructuring of
the joint, would not play again until August 31st 2001,
missing out on 2 and a half seasons through injury.
Took on the manager's job on the
opening day of the 2002/03 Season and began to rebuild
Hampsthwaite from nothing, bringing in a whole plethora of new
players and scored the 1st goal on his player-manager debut in
a defeat to Menston Rangers, August 31st 2002.
One year on, August 30th 2003 and scored his first hat-trick in 5 years and for the
first time since his return from injury, began to look like
his former self as United cruised to victory over
top-of-the-table Red Arrows 6-2 .
After the Hampsthwaite 1st team
folded at the start of that same year, took on the
vacant Manager's position and led the club back to the 1st
Division at the first attempt.
